Beijing-led talks on Ukraine a ‘trap’ for the West: analysts
Jean-François Di Meglio (Asia Centre) was interviewed by the Agence France-Presse (AFP) to discuss Chinese President Xi Jinping and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s phone conversation on April 26th. Although Xi pushed for peace negotiations, his cordial relationship with Moscow since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia remains unchanged. China seeks to establish itself as a mediator of the new world order, but considering the lost territories, Ukraine’s current stance would be against a Chinese proposal for a ceasefire.
