DiploMatrix, Mapping Global Tensions Emanating from China

What is this database offering?

DiploMatrix is a strategic tool for researchers, mapping geopolitical tensions driven by China in real time. Using GDELT data and SKEMA’s advanced analytics, it generates an interactive world grid, allowing to correlate with diplomatic, economic, and security shifts.

Why did we create this database?

Much of the world’s international relations are driven by tensions, and we wanted to fill the gap in structured, data-driven analysis of China’s global influence. Existing resources lack a systematic view of bilateral tensions, making it harder to anticipate strategic shifts.

What can the database be used for?

European researchers, policymakers, and risk analysts can track geopolitical flashpoints, study correlations with actual events fanning these tensions, and assess China’s evolving global impact. DiploMatrix, powered by real-time GDELT monitoring, delivers evidence-based insights into international tensions.

When was it created and how is it updated?

Developed in partnership with Skema Business School, DiploMatrix was launched at the end of 2023, and it has been updated quarterly since then, with fresh data and refined analytics for maximum accuracy.

Who is behind the database?

DiploMatrix is an initiative of Asia Centre in partnership with Skema Business School. And each release is sparking new research by the students in the Asia Centre “SPARKer” program
