Opinion Piece: C’est en évitant la question politique que les groupes sociaux, en Chine, font avancer leurs revendications

In this article (language: French), Jean-Louis Rocca from Sciences Po and leader of Work Package 2 of the China Horizons project explains why it is problematic that most European publications on China consider that Chinese cannot have opinions. Not only is it insulting to them, but this kind of statement contradicts reality. There are a lot of social protests, millions of Chinese express their points of view on the social networks and more recently movements of opinion flourish, most of them showing a desire to distance themselves from the official discourse. Certainly these opinions do not lead to political contestation today but whatever happens, it will always remain essential to take into account the opinions of the Chinese.
