Opinion Piece: Third Belt and Road Forum confirms how divided the world is
In this op-ed for Asia Times, Bruegel Senior Fellow Alicia García-Herrero takes a closer look at the state of the Belt and Road Initiative in light of the third global BRI summit. Both the summit itself and the developments in the BRI over the last years indicate that the BRI is transitioning away from being an economic project and instead more and more functioning as a foreign policy tool. With that in mind, Alicia warns that the world is “basically getting closer to a full-fledged cold war”.
