Opinion Piece: As China’s Economy Drags, the Rest of Asia Offers Hope
Bruegel Senior Fellow Alicia García-Herrero breaks down China’s current economic struggles, including disappointing growth figures, lack of confidence among Chinese consumers and investors, high public debt, and substantial decreases in Chinese exports. However, while China seeks to overcome these issues (although so far not with a fiscal stimulus package that many have expected to come), it seems that the world – and not least the developing countries in Asia – is less affected by this stagnation in the Chinese economy than one might have expected.
