To anticipate what the coming year might have in store for us, MERICS hosted the 6th MERICS China Forecast conference on Wednesday, January 15 in collaboration with media partner Politico.
The year 2024 brought significant developments, including the results of elections in the US, the EU, and Taiwan; shifts in EU-China relations such as the new EU Commission mandate and tariffs on China-made EVs; and various Chinese efforts to redirect its domestic economy.
As we step into 2025, marked by the return of Donald Trump to the White House and heightened uncertainties, the recalibration of the transatlantic partnership, the future of China-EU relations, and other geopolitical challenges are set to continue shaping international relations. MERICS presented findings from our annual survey among leading European experts and professionals on key developments in Europe-China relations. A prominent line-up of high-level speakers shared their expectations for the turbulent months ahead.
The keynote was held by Niclas Kvarnstroem, Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific, EEAS, followed by two panels:
- “Which political, economic and social trends will shape China’s trajectory in 2025?”
- “What’s ahead for European China policy in light of changing transatlantic dynamics?”.
The discussions was moderated by Claudia Wessling, Director Communications and Publications (MERICS) and Reporter Jordyn Dahl (POLITICO). For more information please check MERICS website here >>
