The waves of feminist and LGBTIQ+ movements in China

This seminar, organised by Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, focused on the evolving and intricate relationship between the state and the ideologies of feminism. This relationship becomes even more significant given the contemporary challenges faced by feminist groups as well as LGBTIQ+ communities.

Since 2012, there has been a discernible trend in which these movements have gravitated towards cyberspace and embraced transnational perspectives as a response to heightened state control. This transition has paved the way for the formation of robust networks that champion Chinese feminist causes. These networks, established primarily in the United States and Europe, have become deeply involved in a diverse range of political and social matters.
